Pre-Implementation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) - Why Acacio Fertility Center's decision is science-based

Infertility topics explained by Brian Acacio, M.D..   www.AcacioFertility.com

"A research journal just published this month provides further evidence that the Array-CHG test chosen by Dr. Acacio is the only validated test for Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis."

I recall being asked by several patients about Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (also known as "Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS)).   Acacio Fertility Center only uses Reprogenetics and their Array-CHG to help our patients.    This decision is supported by the latest research journal published by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (Fertility and Sterility, Vol. 95, No. 3, March 1, 2011).

Genetic Diagnosis increases the precision of an infertility specialist's diagnostic capability.  Such precision is needed to guide treatment protocols.   I rely on accurate tools such as Reprogenetics' Array-CHG to customize treatment plans for each patient because time is of the essence, and tests with greater range of variability can result in mediocre treatment plans and ultimately unnecessary waste of energy and resources, not to mention prolonging the treatment.

There are many reasons for my choice of Reprogenetics.  Primarily, Reprogenetics is the only genetics laboratory that publishes a lot of research.   Diagnostic tests need to be validated with research.  That involves putting a group of patients through different experimental diagnostic tests and comparing the outcome of the tests to the "gold standard."  The diagnostic tests that have greater "power" to detect its intended target have greater reliability and predictive value.  On the other hand, those tests that have not gone through research validation are considered "non-validated."

The array CGH is now the ONLY preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) test that is now "validated".   Acacio Fertility Center does not recommend other "non-validated" technologies.
